Live Oscars Winners Tonight—Plus Chris & Will’s Predictions; New “What About Our Life” Episode Airs Monday.
The 98th Academy Awards® arrive after an unusually unpredictable season, with many top races still unsettled.
Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” leads with a record 16 nominations and is competing closely with Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another,” which has 13. Both films have performed well in precursor awards and face a crowded best picture field that also includes “Frankenstein,” “Bugonia,” “Hamnet,” “Marty Supreme,” “Sentimental Value,” “Train Dreams,” “F1,” and “The Secret Agent.”
Acting categories look especially tight: Michael B. Jordan (“Sinners”) has momentum after a SAG win, but he faces strong competition from Timothée Chalamet (“Marty Supreme”), Leonardo DiCaprio (“One Battle After Another”), Ethan Hawke (“Blue Moon”), and Wagner Moura (“The Secret Agent”). Jessie Buckley (“Hamnet”) has led much of the lead actress race against Emma Stone, Kate Hudson, Rose Byrne, and Renate Reinsve. Supporting races are also close.
A new Oscar category debuts this year, recognizing casting directors, and Conan O’Brien returns to host for the second straight year.
